The supported file formats include the widely-used MP3 format and the APE format (a lossless compressed format that has gained favor with many audiophiles). Uncompressed music files in the WAV, AIFF, and AU formats are also supported. Music Library runs on computers with Microsoft Windows and Java 1.4.0 or later.
Music Library is a "deluxe" superset of William C. McCain's acclaimed Disc Library product. Two major new features differentiate Music Library from Disc Library:
- The built-in music file player for MP3, APE, WAV, AIFF, and AU files.
- A new, highly versatile Intelligent Song Search facility that can "find that track" anywhere in the user's music collection.
Like Disc Library, Music Library supports three different Shuffle Modes and has extensive, easy-to-use support for user-defined Play Lists. Music Library reads the "metadata" tags from music files; for CDs, it uses an Internet connection to look up information (including track titles) in the online database maintained by freedb.org. This information is used to build searchable, alphabetical listings of the entire music collection by title, performer, and composer.
The supported CD changers are 200-disc, 300-disc, and 400-disc "carousel" models made by Sony and a 100-disc model made by NSM. Sony CD changers require an external adapter; the SAVR adapter made by BlackBoxDesigns is readily available for this purpose. A single SAVR supports up to four Sony CD changers and requires one serial (COM) port on the computer. Music Library also supports the Slink-e adapter.Related News:
