American Authorities have cracked down on another British online casino group. The chairman of Sporting Bet Peter Dicks, 64, was arrested just a few days ago at Kennedy airport, being accused of gambling by computer. He is currently held in New York were he is waiting for a bail hearing after he wasn't yet given one by a judge. Louisiana state police intend on Bringing Mr Dicks to the state to stand trial following their warrant for his arrest.
This arrest is the latest in the string of US actions designed to put a stop to online casino gambling. The department of justice claimed for years that online casino gambling is a violation of the Federal Wire Act, but until the first arrest of Carruthers, a former online casino CEO last July, companies were operating freely in foreign regulated jurisdictions such as the US.
Similar to what followed the July arrest, this second incident also brought the online casino and gaming stocks to drop while investors and the online casino industry as a whole are quite shocked by the recent turn of events. While some may have thought that the former case involving Carruthers of BetonSport was to be singled out example for the industry, this second case hints that the US government has bigger plans than just finding a scapegoat.
