Due to the inconsistency and confusion surrounding the global online casino industry, two British online casino gambling companies have stopped taking bets from US customers.The noose seems to be tightening on the American online casino industry. While the country’s politicians are arguing over the online casino bill, authorities are seemingly clamping down harder on online casino staff – even those who are not American citizens. It comes as no surprise then that offshore companies are wary of doing business with the United States in fear of arrests and fines. Over the past few weeks, we have increasingly been witness to companies from around the globe who are rethinking their US marketing strategies in wake of the confusion.
Two British companies have recently stopped their United States online casino operations. William Hill, an English gaming company, followed a policy of accepting bets from US gamblers, although they were limited to poker and gaming and did not include sportsbetting. These online casino gambling operations have since been stopped from the company in fear of the legal implications by US authorities. The Ritz Club London has also stopped taking bets from new online casino customers, although gamblers already registered with the company can continue business as usual.
Traditionally, the United Kingdom is largely more tolerant than the United States towards online casino and land-based gambling. The turmoil in the US will need to be resolved before British (and other companies) invest in the American online casino market again.
